Terms of Use
Last updated:
These Terms of Use apply to your use of AlertWatch World and its public services.
Use of the site is subject to these Terms.
If you do not agree with them, you should not rely on or continue using the website.
On this page
1. About AlertWatch World
AlertWatch World is an independent public-information project.
Its first operational service, Weather, collects and presents available official weather-alert information through a common map and dashboard.
AlertWatch World is not a government agency, meteorological authority, emergency service, or warning-issuing organization.
The original issuing authority remains responsible for its official warning information.
2. Informational purpose
AlertWatch World is provided primarily for general awareness, informational use, exploration of official alert activity, and understanding how warning information from different sources is presented.
The service is not intended to replace official emergency, meteorological, marine, travel, or public-safety information.
For time-sensitive or safety-related decisions, consult the applicable official authority.
The Disclaimer forms an important part of understanding the limitations of the service.
3. No emergency service
AlertWatch World does not receive emergency reports, dispatch emergency services, issue evacuation orders, issue weather warnings, provide emergency instructions, monitor individual users’ safety, or guarantee that anyone is monitoring the site or contact mailbox at a particular time.
Do not use AlertWatch World or its contact address to request emergency assistance.
4. Use of the website
You may use AlertWatch World for lawful personal, educational, research, informational, journalistic, and other legitimate purposes.
You agree not to use the service in a manner intended to:
- interfere with normal operation of the website;
- bypass or defeat reasonable technical safeguards;
- intentionally overload the service or its supporting infrastructure;
- introduce malicious software or harmful code;
- probe for vulnerabilities without authorization;
- impersonate AlertWatch World or an official issuing authority;
- falsely suggest affiliation with or endorsement by AlertWatch World;
- use AlertWatch branding deceptively; or
- use the site in violation of applicable law.
These Terms do not prohibit normal browser use, ordinary linking, legitimate research, or other rights provided by applicable law.
5. Automated access
AlertWatch World is a public website, but its infrastructure and third-party services have finite capacity.
Automated access must not be used in a way that unreasonably disrupts the website, hosting infrastructure, mapping services, external source services, or other users’ access.
Third-party resources used by the site may also have their own acceptable-use, rate-limit, attribution, caching, or access requirements.
Nothing in these Terms grants permission to disregard third-party service restrictions.
6. Source information remains third-party information
AlertWatch World processes information originating from external issuing authorities.
Those underlying records may be subject to government open-data terms, source-specific licences, attribution requirements, issuing-authority conditions, WMO or participant terms, or other third-party rights.
AlertWatch World’s display of source information does not transfer ownership of that source material to AlertWatch World.
It also does not grant users additional rights beyond those provided by the original rights holder, applicable licence, applicable law, or another valid authorization.
Users who intend to redistribute or commercially reuse source information should consult the applicable original source and licensing terms.
7. AlertWatch World original material
Unless otherwise indicated, original AlertWatch World editorial content, visual design, explanatory material, and other original site materials are © 2026 AlertWatch World. All rights reserved.
This does not claim ownership of government data, official warning records, third-party map data, third-party software, or other material belonging to its respective rights holder.
Specific third-party materials may be governed by their own licences.
The absence of a separate AlertWatch licence does not grant a general right to copy, republish, redistribute, sell, or create derivative works from AlertWatch-owned material beyond rights provided by applicable law.
Applicable copyright law may provide exceptions or user rights independently of these Terms.
8. Linking to AlertWatch World
You may link to publicly accessible AlertWatch World pages provided that the link does not falsely imply sponsorship or endorsement, misrepresent AlertWatch World’s identity, obscure the source of the page, or present AlertWatch World as an official government or meteorological authority.
Ordinary linking does not transfer ownership of AlertWatch content to the linking website.
9. AlertWatch branding
The names, visual identity, logos, and branding used by AlertWatch World should not be used in a way that is likely to mislead people into believing that another service, website, product, or organization is operated by or officially affiliated with AlertWatch World.
Nothing in these Terms grants permission to impersonate AlertWatch World.
This section does not restrict legitimate commentary, criticism, news reporting, reference, or other lawful uses.
10. Third-party software and mapping
AlertWatch World uses third-party software and mapping resources.
These currently include services and materials such as:
- Leaflet; and
- OpenStreetMap.
Those materials remain subject to their own licences, attribution requirements, policies, and rights.
AlertWatch World’s Sources page provides additional information about major current providers and source relationships.
11. External links
The website may link to meteorological agencies, government websites, WMO/SWIC, source documentation, mapping services, software projects, or other external resources.
External websites are not controlled by AlertWatch World.
AlertWatch World does not guarantee the accuracy, availability, privacy, security, or continued operation of an external website merely because it is linked.
12. Availability of the service
AlertWatch World may change over time.
Features, sources, pages, classifications, or services may be added, revised, suspended, restricted, or discontinued.
AlertWatch World does not guarantee that the website will always be available, any particular source will remain available, a particular feature will continue indefinitely, or historic functionality will always be preserved.
Where practical, material methodology changes should be reflected in the site’s explanatory documentation.
13. Changes to source data
AlertWatch World does not control the external authorities that issue weather warnings.
Sources may change APIs, feed formats, warning terminology, geographic structures, severity definitions, lifecycle practices, access conditions, or availability.
AlertWatch may need to modify its processing or temporarily withhold information in response.
Such changes do not create an obligation for AlertWatch World to reproduce every historic source behaviour indefinitely.
14. Data and display accuracy
AlertWatch World aims to process and present available source information responsibly.
However, errors can occur in source information, transmission, normalization, classification, geography, timestamps, grouping, display, software, or third-party services.
Users should consult the original issuing authority when accuracy is important to a decision.
The detailed limitations of the Weather service are explained in the Disclaimer and Methodology pages.
15. No warranties
The website and its services are provided on an “as available” basis.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, AlertWatch World does not warrant that the service will always be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, complete, accurate, current, or suitable for a particular purpose.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, rights, or obligations that cannot lawfully be excluded.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, AlertWatch World will not be responsible for indirect, incidental, consequential, or similar losses arising solely from use of or inability to use the website, particularly where a user relies on AlertWatch instead of consulting the applicable official authority for time-sensitive or safety-critical information.
This includes potential losses connected with unavailable or delayed source data, service interruptions, incomplete coverage, inaccurate geographic representation, source errors, third-party services, or reliance on information that has changed since publication.
Nothing in these Terms limits responsibility where applicable law does not permit such a limitation.
17. User responsibility
You are responsible for deciding how to use information obtained through AlertWatch, consulting official sources when appropriate, maintaining your own device and network security, determining whether third-party terms apply to your intended reuse of source material, and complying with applicable law.
You should not interpret the site’s availability or absence of alerts as a guarantee of safety.
18. Privacy
Your use of AlertWatch World is also subject to the site’s Privacy Policy.
The current site does not use AlertWatch advertising, analytics, accounts, persistent user profiles, or website contact forms, although ordinary hosting and third-party resource delivery involve technical network processing.
The Privacy Policy explains these practices in more detail.
19. Communications with AlertWatch World
If you voluntarily contact AlertWatch World, your message may be reviewed for purposes such as responding to your inquiry, investigating a possible error, considering feedback, addressing privacy questions, or maintaining appropriate records.
Sending a message does not create a professional-client relationship, emergency-response relationship, obligation to respond within a particular period, or obligation to implement a requested change.
The contact mailbox is not monitored as an emergency service.
20. No endorsement
The appearance of an agency name, government data, issuing authority, third-party service, link, map provider, or open-source software does not by itself mean that the organization sponsors, endorses, approves, or is affiliated with AlertWatch World.
Similarly, AlertWatch’s use of source information should not be represented as official endorsement of AlertWatch by the source provider.
21. Changes to these Terms
AlertWatch World may update these Terms as the service evolves.
The Last updated date at the top of the page will be revised when material changes are made.
Continued use of the website after revised Terms are published means the current Terms apply to that subsequent use, subject to applicable law.
